01

Start with a buyer problem, not a catalogue

A list of every product you make tells a UK buyer little about why it should change supplier. Choose a focused product family and show the problem you solve: capacity, a process, quality, delivery reliability, customisation or a suitable minimum order. State where the goods are made and who will contract with the customer.

Prepare a short capability profile with production location, process, typical volumes, lead times, relevant evidence and the markets you already serve. Be ready to explain how samples, quotations, quality issues and after-sales communication work in practice.

02

Choose a route to market deliberately

Direct selling, a distributor, a sales representative and a commercial introducer involve different levels of work and control. A distributor may buy and resell goods. An agent’s scope and authority depend on the agreement. An introducer may research a fit and connect parties without managing the sale. Decide what support you need before using a title or promising exclusivity.

Acorn focuses on researching real requirements and making considered, potentially protected introductions. It does not become an importer or exclusive UK sales office simply by receiving your enquiry.

03

Make the first UK conversation easy

A buyer will ask whether you can meet its specification, volume, delivery and assurance requirements. Prepare a response that names the factory, manufacturing capability, minimum order, available capacity, sample route, quotation basis and current certifications with their scope. If compliance evidence is missing, say what is being checked rather than presenting a general certificate as a complete answer.

Agree who is responsible for import, product obligations, freight, taxes and customs processes with appropriate advisers before a transaction. These responsibilities depend on the goods and commercial arrangement; a promising sales lead does not settle them.

04

Protect introductions sensibly

If a third party has found a genuine buyer opportunity, a short written account or introduction arrangement can clarify the named customer, existing relationships and any agreed fee before identities are shared. Read and negotiate the terms. The goal is clarity for both sides, not a vague claim over a whole market.

The strongest route to UK customers is repeatable evidence of fit: a product the market needs, credible production, responsive answers and delivery that works after the introduction.

Official sources to check

Rules and requirements depend on the product and market. Check the current official guidance for your situation.

Acorn researches commercial fit and makes introductions. The buyer and supplier are responsible for their own technical, legal and commercial decisions.
